For those who prepare XBRL in-house, can you please recommend some good training options? Our team would like to participate in formal training to bolster our current knowledge with regard to XBRL.

Thank you for posting your question to the forum! There is an XBRL Fundamentals course offered by AICPA (it looks like there's a discount for AICPA members).

Additionally, if you're looking for general XBRL resources, I recommend searching "XBRL" in the search bar at the top of the page here in the SEC Pro community. It will bring up blog articles and other content relevant to information and best practices.

Who currently does your XBRL for your filings? They should have trainings available for you. All of my providers provided good training!

Thanks for the feedback, Ida! We use workiva and our rep indicated they don't provide this kind of training. I will quote their exact response: "I don't believe we have 100% formal training but we have some good resources and also a good call on downloading the XBRL-Validation-Messages template from the marketplace."

This came as a shock to me. It sounds like they prefer to train through troubleshooting exact errors in a live filing vs. proactive training.

Wow! The sent me to a 2 day training in DC . . . maybe they cut costs or no longer have after COVID? But they also have good videos that should be useful.

    Kind regards,

I know, right?! I will probably end up going with the cheap option – the AICPA training. Just got off a call with Deloitte and they provide robust training, but it's costly!

    Hey Jake,

We went through the route of trying to bring XBRL in-house at my previous company. I was given the same message as you from Workiva in that they don't offer a formal in-person training. However, if you go through their learning hub, they have a lot of really good courses that give you a really good understanding of XBRL as well as specifics of how to manage within their Wdesk system. The other good resource I used was signing up for all of the XBRL sessions at the annual Workiva conference as there were a lot of them. We then transitioned out of our outsourcing arrangement with Workiva, reducing from full service to limited service which was about 5 hours per quarter and 10 hours at yearend. This allowed us to have a Workiva contact to review our tagging and XBRL work and ensure we were receiving less suggested changes over the course of one year. Hope that helps and good luck!

    Hi Ashley-

Great information and suggestions! Thank you very much. I began the learning hub sessions and they have been helpful.
