    Welcome to the ESG Professionals Group or ESG Pro Group! We are extremely excited to have you join our online community!

    Let's start off with a round of introductions, please answer the following questions:

    1. Name, title, company
    2. How long you have been in sustainability reporting?
    3. What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten at work?
    4. You can only eat one food again for the rest of your life. What is it?

    For extra credit, if you have an adorable pet or child. Upload a pic and a description!

    2. Do I count being in sustainability reporting? I think I do! One year. 
    3. K.I.S.S. = Keep It Simple Stupid 
    4. I am a huge sucker for hand-held items like a burrito or pizza. 

    My extra credit; I present to you, my sweet, precious, angel, Arlo. He's 6 years old and a super mutt. We named him after Arlo from the Good Dinosaur. Funnily enough, Arlo was a perfect name because he is fearful and riddled with anxiety...just like the character...one day we hope he'll become a brave boy...

    I love your piece of advice, it s very similar to a conversation I heard on a podcast. One of the co-hosts introduced this idea of, "do you want to be happy or do you want to be right?" And when I think about it, it's poetic and the truth about life. ​ I find myself asking that question whenever a challenge or conflict comes up.

In-house counsel for public companies for 20 years before transitioning to the "other side" where I now have the opportunity daily to, among other things, provide guidance to companies on their disclosure and reporting. We are all on the sustainability reporting journey together.

    What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten at work? Once it becomes just "work," it is time to look for a change. Remaining passionate and enthusiastic are critical components.

    2. I've held this position for ~15 months but have been responsible for our annual Sustainability Reports for three years now.
    3. Teamwork - Leverage the skills and knowledge of those around you for the best outcome, no matter the project.
    4. Chicken caprese and homemade guacamole (though not at the same time!)- my daughter loves to grow a garden so this is a great use of her fresh tomatoes.

    No pets, but two great kids and a future daughter-in-love (in-law) joining our family in May 2023!

    1. My name is Jennifer Nakata and I am the Director ESG for Ballard Power Systems, located in Burnaby, BC Canada.
    2. I have been preparing ESG reports for 5 years now.
    3. The best piece of advice I have received is actually a quote, "Any fool can make something complicated. It takes a genius to make it simple." ~Woody Guthrie. I believe this is an adaptation of a similar line by Albert Einstein.

    To introduce myself,

    2. How long you have been in sustainability reporting? No experience in ESG, 30+ in SEC Reporting
    3. What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten at work? Always take your lunch. Even if its only 20 minutes.  Stop. Take the time for self-care.
    4. You can only eat one food again for the rest of your life. What is it?  Thanksgiving Dinner with all the fixin's so I always have a variety!

    4. You can only eat one food again for the rest of your life. What is it?  That is a tough one, but if I can choose a holiday dinner that will be Xmas's

    Absolutely thrilled to be a part of the ESG Pro Community!  And a HEARTY HELLO to all my fellow ESG/Sustainability professionals out there!  

    Here is a bit about me:

    • Sandra (Sandy) Pierantoni, formerly a Director of Global ESG/Sustainability at LKQ Corporation.  Sadly, I was informed my job was being eliminated due to restructuring and changing priorities.  I am now looking for my "next big thing".  I am open to opportunities if anyone is looking for a go-getter with 25+ years working in Corporate Responsbility with Fortune 500 companies!  Thanks!  
    • ESG/Sustainability Reporting is the latest term. I "officially" have been in an ESG role for 3 years, but I issued my first CSR report with another Fortune 500 company back in 2005 which was the catalyst for what is known as Sustainability / ESG reporting today.  
    • The best piece of advice I have ever gotten at work is "Don't take yourself so seriously.  It's OK not to know everything.  It's OK to make mistakes.  It's how you handle the challenges and what you learn from those experiences that will set you apart from the rest."
    • I seriously LOVE food, good food at that.  I would be so disappointed if that's the only thing I would ever get to eat again.  While I love a great steak, I think that would be boring quickly.  So, I will choose pizza - at least there are a variety of options and flavors you can incorporate into pizza.  

    For my extra credit, beyond being an ESG / Corporate Responsibility Professional, I am a wife (married to my husband for 18 years this year, together for 26 years). Together we have our lovely teenager daughter who is going to turn 15 years old later this summer (ask me again if I will soon use the term "lovely" to describe a teenager). I also have three rescued fur babies - my dogs Bella and Jax, and my chinchilla, Dusty.  They are like my "other" children!
