In several cases we have documented the functions of the configuration of our ERP system as controls. For example, the AP subledger is a part of the overall Finance module so subledger entries automatically post to the GL.
We initially assigned ownership of these controls to appropriate members in the business. That worked because those owners were involved in the implementation of the ERP and had knowledge of the configuration. Fast forward a decade or so, those owners are no longer with the company and their successors are not as well versed in the ERP configuration.
How are others assigning ownership for these types of controls? Does it go to an IT resource? Does it stay with the business, and they need to learn more about configuration? Or, is there some kind of split ownership between IT and the business?
