Session Description
Sustainability reporting isn’t dead, nor is the need to deliver clear, reliable information across financial, operational, and sustainability domains. But teams are still using the same organizational structures, processes and tools they’ve always had, which is making this work increasingly difficult and risky. Even without formal “ESG controllership” or integrated reporting roles, the responsibilities behind them are already landing on financial reporting, SOX/compliance, audit, and sustainability teams.
This session brings together leaders across these functions to explore how the modern
controllership is evolving and what skills professionals need to succeed in this interconnected environment. Panelists will discuss rising disclosure demands, the convergence of financial and nonfinancial data, and how AI and automation can reduce workload while strengthening reporting quality.
Whether you’re in SEC reporting, internal audit, sustainability, or operations, you’ll walk away with practical insight into how roles are shifting and how to prepare your team for what’s next.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Describe how expanding disclosure expectations are driving the convergence of financial, operational, and sustainability reporting functions.
- Identify the core skillsets, technical competencies, and cross-functional experiences needed for emerging controllership and integrated reporting roles.
- Assess how AI and automation can help teams manage increased data volume and streamline reporting and controls processes.
- Evaluate how responsibilities for nonfinancial data may fall across finance, sustainability, audit, procurement, supply chain, or HR, and what considerations matter when defining ownership and accountability.
