Ms. Cooper is the former VP of Internal Audit at WorldCom and one of Time Magazine’s three Person’s of the Year in 2002. She will guide members through an afternoon of identifying fraud red flags and how to effectively implement best practices.
SOX & Internal Controls Summit is a 3 hour event and offers 3 CPE credits in Fraud. Attendance is required for the full three hours in order to receive any CPE credit.

Cynthia Cooper, former VP of Internal Audit at WorldCom and one of Time Magazine's Persons of the Year in 2002, will share the fascinating story about how she and her team of auditors worked together in secret to investigate and unearth $3.8 billion in fraud at WorldCom. At the time, this was the largest corporate fraud in U.S. history.
During this session, you'll learn:
- What data led the WorldCom Internal Audit team to the discovery of this massive fraud, and the incredible lengths they had to go to determine the magnitude and root causes of the fraud
- What obstacles Cynthia and her team encountered internally and externally in bringing this fraud to light
- The critical ethical decisions the WorldCom Internal Audit team faced throughout the investigation and what helped them remain true to their own personal and professional ethics
